The Center for Coastal Studies invites you to bring family and friends to Whale Week – A Celebration of the Sea! Whale Week, which runs from July 30 – August 4, features a host of fun, family-friendly events and activities, all with a briny theme. There’s something for everyone!

Sunday, July 30 at 8 am: Run the Trails for the Whales 5K
Lace up your running shoes and join us for a fun 5K through the beautiful Province Lands in the Cape Cod National Seashore. Pre-registration is required.  Registration fee is just $25, and all proceeds support the Center’s education programs. First 100 registrants will receive a souvenir Trails for Whales T-Shirt! Trails for Whales is sponsored by Marathon Sports, J&E Produce, The Provincetown Department of Public Works, the Cape Cod National Seashore and local artist Sophie Mueller.

Monday, July 31 – Thursday, August 3 at 1 pm: Get to the Bottom Of It!
Become a junior marine biologist! Use a plankton tow to collect tiny marine creatures, then take an up close and personal look under the microscope. Learn how and why the biggest animals in the ocean depend on the smallest animals to survive!
This hands-on program is designed for kids age 5 – 12. $3 donation, reservations recommended. Meet at SEA Space, 333R Commercial Street, Provincetown (behind the Squealing Pig).

Monday July 31 -Thursday, August 3 at 11 am: Marine Discovery Hour
This week’s theme will be WHALES of course!  Join us once or each day to learn different aspects of the world of whales.  This program is designed for kids ages 7-12, but also anyone who wants to find out more.  $3 donation. Meet at SEA Space, 333R Commercial Street, Provincetown (behind the Squealing Pig).

Tuesday, August 1 at 10 am: Whale Week Amazing Race 4
CCS, in partnership with the Pilgrim Monument and Museum, presents a fun, family friendly version of The Amazing Race.  Teams of up to 4 people will compete in a race that takes in some of Provincetown’s iconic locations, while learning about the rich marine history of the town.  $30 per team, includes admission to Pilgrim monument for entire day.  Register at the CCS kiosk on McMillan Pier on Race Day.

Wednesday, August 2 at 3 pm: Build Your Own Boat for the Boat Race
Join us on the beach in front of the Crown and Anchor to build a boat to enter into the Home Made Boat Race on Thursday.  Marine debris collected throughout the year will be available for anyone to come and use for their boat. All boats made only from trash score high on ingenuity points!

Thursday, August 3 at 11 am: Free Lecture  –  The Whales of Cape Cod
Province Lands Visitor Center. Free, all welcome!

Thursday, August 3 at 5 pm: Home Made Boat Race presented by Venture Athletics
Use whatever you can to build a vessel that will get you to the finish line! Prizes will be awarded, with points for ingenuity, costume, speed, and use of marine debris in the building process. Not a boat builder? Then come and cheer on the paddlers – hilarity is guaranteed! Pre-registration is required. Friday, August 4 at 10 am: Whale Games in the Park
Marine themed games and competitions for kids of all ages 5-12, plus arts and crafts activities. Free, all welcome!
