Volunteers interested in learning more about a rare “adventure cleanup” planned for the Boston Harbor Islands this September, and Hull Shoreline later this fall, may attend a one-hour informational meeting this Thursday, July 11, at 4 pm.

The meeting will be held at the Center for Coastal Studies, 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown, and also via Zoom.  Register with Fritz McGirr (fmcgirr@coastalstudies.org) to receive Zoom link.

Interested volunteers from the Cape, South Shore, and greater Boston area are encouraged to attend.

From September 15 – 21, the Center for Coastal Studies, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, National Parks of Boston, Boston Harbor Now, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service will conduct a highly technical “adventure cleanup” on five of the outermost Boston Harbor islands.

Participation is limited to 50 “Beach Brigade” volunteers.

Volunteers will be hosted by the Department of Conservation and Recreation in yurts on Peddocks Island, and transported to each targeted island by boat. Fine camp cuisine will be prepared over open fires by professional outdoor chefs.

Interested volunteers will also learn about a second cleanup along the rocky Hull shoreline planned for October or November.

This project is supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Marine Debris Program with funding provided by the Inflation Reduction Act.
