We’re making plans for Whale Week 2025 and will be posting details soon. Check back to see what we have planned!
In the meantime, here are the events held for Whale Week 2024 to give you an idea of the week’s events.
Run the Trails for the Whales 5K
Sunday
Our 5K fundraiser leaves from the Race Point Visitor Center and winds through the spectacular scenery of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Registration is just $40, and includes a one-of-a-kind race tee designed by a talented local artist, Sophie Mueller, for the first 50 registrants. All proceeds support the Center’s wide-reaching education programs, which teach kids and adults how they can protect and preserve our coasts and oceans.
Junior Rescuer
Monday
Since 1984 the Center’s Entanglement Response team has disentangled more than 200 whales, sea turtles and other marine animals from rope, net and other gear.
This hour-long program offers kids a unique opportunity to see videos, photographs and tools from actual disentanglement operations. They’ll also hit the beach to try their hand a freeing an ‘entangled whale’.
Meet at SEA Space in Whaler’s Wharf, 237 Commercial Street, Provincetown.
$10 per child/ $5 for CCS members. Space is limited, and reservations highly recommended.
Watching Whales From Shore
Thursday
Join Center for Coastal Studies Education Coordinator Jesse Mechling to learn about the whales that call Cape Cod waters home, and the conservation research that the Center is conducting. Start with a presentation in Province Lands Visitor Center, then spend time on the back deck trying to spot whales.
Get to the Bottom Of It!
Friday
Join us on the beach in downtown Provincetown for an exploration of marine life, and discover why the tiniest organisms are the most important in the marine ecosystem!
$10 per child/ $5 for CCS members. Reservations highly recommended. Contact Jesse Mechling, Director of Education, at 508-487-3622 x 114 or email jmechling@coastalstudies.org.
