Make a Bequest
Protecting Marine Life for Future Generations
Have you ever thought that you might be able to protect the marine environment beyond your lifetime? When you support the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies you make a commitment to the future.
One very simple way of doing this would be to make a gift to PCCS in your will. Your bequest will help ensure PCCS’s independence and leadership and serve as a reminder to others, especially your family and friends, of the things you valued most in life. A bequest can take many forms. Here are a few of the more common ways of making such a gift:
• You may give PCCS a specific dollar amount, or specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible property.
• You may also give PCCS all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate after the payment of any specific bequests and all estate related expenses.
• You may also make PCCS a beneficiary of the remainder of your IRA, Keogh, tax-sheltered annuity, or qualified pension plan.
• Your bequest to PCCS may also be contingent upon the death of other beneficiaries.
A bequest to PCCS may be either unrestricted or a specific endowed purpose. The most useful kind of bequest is unrestricted, because it allows PCCS discretion in allocating funds where the need is greatest. However, some donors prefer to create permanent named endowment funds that support specific activities.
Sample wording of an unrestricted bequest would be:
I give, devise and bequeath to the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Inc., PO Box 1036, 115 Bradford St., Provincetown, MA 02657, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, [(____dollars) or (____ percent of the residue of my estate)] to be used for its general purposes.
Sample wording of a bequest in the form of an endowment for a restricted purpose would be:
I give [(____dollars) or (____ percent of the residue of my estate)] to the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Inc., PO Box 1036, 59 Commercial St., Provincetown, MA 02657, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, the income only to be used for the following purpose (____________). If in the future, it is the opinion of the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies that all or part of the income of the fund cannot be usefully applied to the above purpose, the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies may use the same for any purpose within the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies provided this memorial will continue to be recognized in some suitable manner.
