SUMMARY:Winter Wednesdays: "Beach Trash to Art Treasure"
DESCRIPTION:The CCS Marine Debris & Plastics Program will host “Beach Trash to Art Treasure\,” a series of immersive workshops led by different artists working with the medium of plastic beach trash. Participants may create a different piece each week or work on one piece over the course of the seven weeks. \n\n\nAll debris materials will be provided by CCS\, who has collected them over the past several years and stored them for use in artistic or educational endeavors. Additional tools\, equipment\, hardware or materials may also be supplied by CCS\, the instructors or the participants; but no large expenses are anticipated. \n\n\nClasses will be led by artist instructors Sarah Thornington @ebbthetide and Scott Feen @atlanticworkshop\, who will be joined by other artists working with found materials.  Instructors’ names and artist statements will be provided to participants. DESCRIPTION:The Napi’s Winter Lecture Series resumes on THURSDAY\, MARCH 5th at 5 pm with Scott Landry\, Director of the Marine Animal Entanglement Response team (MAER) and coordinator of the Global Whale Entanglement Response Network (GWERN)\, who will talk about the international aspects of marine animal disentanglement. The lecture will be held at the Center for Coastal Studies’ Hiebert Marine Laboratory\, 5 Holway Avenue\, Provincetown. \nThe Napi’s Winter Lecture Series is named after the restaurant owned by the late Napi and Helen Van Dereck\, longtime supporters of the Center for Coastal Studies\, who originally hosted these talks in their famous Provincetown restaurant\, Napi’s.  While the location of the lectures has moved to the Center’s Hiebert Marine Laboratory\, the name of this popular event is still called Napi’s Winter Lecture Series\, in memory of our friends Napi and Helen. \nThe event is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:May Day in the RipRap Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join the CCS Beach Brigade for our annual May Day in the RipRap cleanup this year slated for Friday\, May 1\, 2026\, in the East End of Provincetown. \nThis exposed shoreline is stabilized with tons of granite rock rip-rap which traps debris at every high tide. \nDate may change because of unforeseen circumstances. Details will be sent to all registered volunteers as the cleanup date approaches. \nCLEANUP \n\n\nDate: Friday\, May 1st\, 2026\nTime: 2pm – 4pm\n\nLocation: Provincetown East End (across from the Harbor Hotel at Snail Road) \nNO TRASH TALLY \nMuch of what we find in the rip-rap must be cut out with sharp knives in order to extricate\, which prevents us from tallying by count. We’ll weigh the overall debris and add that to our database\, instead. \n\n\nClick here to register for the cleanup.
