SUMMARY:Talk by Dr. Agnes Mittermayr at art show "Layers of the Coast: Where Art Meets Science"
DESCRIPTION:Join exhibiting artist Nedret Andre and Dr. Agnes Mittermayr\, marine ecologist at the Center for Coastal Studies\, for a conversation exploring the remarkable world of eelgrass through both artistic and scientific perspectives.\n\nFor more than a decade\, Nedret’s abstract paintings have been inspired by careful observation of eelgrass meadows along the Outer Cape. In this conversation\, she will discuss how time spent watching tides\, light\, and movement becomes a visual language in her work.\n\nDr. Mittermayr will share why these underwater meadows are among the most important and often overlooked coastal ecosystems on the planet. Eelgrass provides habitat for marine life\, helps protect shorelines\, improves water quality\, and captures carbon\, making it a critical part of healthy coastal environments. She will also introduce SeagrassNet\, the global monitoring program led by the Center for Coastal Studies that tracks the health of seagrass ecosystems around the world.\n\nTogether\, artist and scientist will offer two ways of seeing the same landscape\, revealing how observation\, curiosity\, and stewardship connect art and conservation.
