Napi’s Lecture: What They Do in the Shallows – Fine-scale movements of White Sharks on Cape Cod.

April 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The path of a single tagged shark off Head of the Meadow Beach over a 90-minute period in September 2020.

Center for Coastal Studies seascape ecologist Bryan Legare continues our 2021 Napi’s Lecture Series with What They Do in the Shallows: Fine-scale Movements of White Sharks on Cape Cod.

Bryan is correlating the bathymetry (seafloor topography) of the seabed with the movements of tagged white sharks through acoustic receiver arrays in study areas off Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro and Nauset Beach in Orleans.

Initial results suggest that the sharks spend a significant amount of time at these locations during the summer and fall.

Bryan Legare holds an MS in Marine and Environmental Science Program from the University of the Virgin Islands and is a current PhD student at UMass Amherst in the Department of Ecological Conservation.
