Movie Opening: A Plastic Ocean
March 4, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm$18
Every year, 28 billion pounds of plastic end up in our ocean. Seals get caught in discarded fishing gear and die trying to free themselves. Dolphins mistake plastic bags for their next meal and die eating them. Fish ingest deflated balloons and choke to death. And it poses a threat to human health.
This new feature-length adventure documentary reveals the impact of our disposable lifestyle across the globe. Four years in the making, the film features work by an international team of adventurers, researchers and ocean ambassadors to uncover the truth about plastics which are beneath the surface of the world’s oceans.
A Skyped question-and-answer session between audience and London-based film producer Jo Ruxton will immediately follow the film.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for children under 12. All proceeds support Pleasant Bay Community Boating, a non-profit organization whose mission is to make boating, marine education, and environmental stewardship affordable and accessible to all.
This event will be followed by a panel discussion on local solutions to the global plastic debris problem. The discussion will take place at 1:30 pm at Eldredge Public Library, Chatham.
