LIVE Dockside Chat: Fishermen and scientists – working together to gather underwater insights

August 31, 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Understanding Bycatch and Depredation in Gillnet Fisheries: Fishermen and scientists working together to gather underwater insights

Join Owen Nichols, Director of Marine Fisheries Research at the Center for Coastal Studies, commercial fisherman Doug Feeney, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution scientist Alex Bocconcelli, for a discussion of their collaborative efforts to understand bycatch and depredation in gillnet fishing gear.

Working as part of a larger team, they use a variety of techniques, including underwater video and DNA analysis, to answer complicated questions about interactions between seals, fish, and fishing gear.

We will be recording the presentation, so if you’re unable to tune in at 12.30 pm please let us know and we’ll send you a link to the video.

We also encourage you to send in questions for the the panel ahead of the discussion and we’ll do our best to answer them during the taping.

Pre-registration is required! Sign up at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/1015982070311/WN_3zzWlPRDTCSUoOdmT3QeUg
