Lecture: Seals as Sentinels of Ocean Health
November 28, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) presents “Seals as Sentinels of Ocean Health” by Dr. Andrea Bogomolni on Wednesday, November 28 at 7 pm at Napi’s Restaurant, Provincetown.
This past summer and fall, a thousand seals, mostly harbor seals, died along the New England coast, from Maine to Massachusetts which elicited a lot of media coverage. Dr. Bogomolni will talk about what these unusual mortality events (or UMEs) tell us about disease outbreaks and seal populations, and how they may reflect the health of our marine environment, and ultimately human health as well.
Dr. Andrea Bogomolni of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution studies marine animal health, with a focus on disease and pathology in marine animals, and understanding how marine mammal health links to ocean and human health. She also serves as Chair of the Northwest Atlantic Seal Research Consortium (NASRC).
This FREE presentation is part of the Center for Coastal Studies’ Lecture Series, which is supported by Napi’s Restaurant at 7 Freeman Street in Provincetown. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 5 pm and enjoy Napi’s special early bird dinner!
