MAER Reporting

Please report any live or dead marine animal entanglements – call 1-800-900-3622 or hail the USCG on VHF 16.

-Report immediately – don’t wait to tie up!
-Maintain a safe distance!
-Do not touch the animal or the gear.
-Do NOT get in the water.
-Watch out for trailing lines that may foul your props.
-Be prepared to stand by until responders arrive or hail another vessel to replace you as stand by vessel.

Have the following information ready when you call:

-Note time and location (distance and bearing to a landmark)
-Latitude and Longitude coordinates (GPS)
-Your vessel name.
-Description of the animal entangled.
-Sea conditions (wave height and wind).
-Note the appearance of the animal and the gear.
-Photograph or video the sighting if possible.
-Email photos to [email protected]
