Global Entanglement Response Network

IWC-logoThe Global Entanglement Response Network (GERN), a new initiative to mitigate human impacts to whales, is headquartered at the Center for Coastal Studies.

GERN builds on an existing partnership between CCS and the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to build a worldwide network of professionally trained and equipped entanglement responders.

The program, which is coordinated by David Mattila, PhD, will build capacity through “in country” training workshops using IWC endorsed curriculum; apprenticeships for key trainees; and the establishment of advanced training curricula for growing national networks.
