The Land-Sea Interaction Program seeks to understand the physical processes responsible for coastal evolution at multiple temporal and spatial scales. Centennial scale changes to beach, barrier islands, and spits have been studied through multiple projects. Decadal to seasonal changes in beaches and inlets have also been documented. Currently the LSI program is working on a physics-based, mathematical model to quantify rates of alongshore sediment transport along embayment and open ocean shorelines. Water elevation data is also being collected in coastal embayments to monitor inlet evolution.
