Marine Education Resources

The Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE) is a great resource for teachers and students.

In the book, Plastic Ahoy! Investigating the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (Millbrook Press), meet a team of Scripps Institute of Oceanography graduate students who sailed one thousand miles into open ocean to explore the North Pacific, where millions of pieces of plastic have collected from rivers, beaches, and ocean traffic all over the world.

Contests:

From the Bow Seat “Activating the next wave of ocean leaders through the arts, science, and advocacy.”  Enter their annual Ocean Awareness Contest, open to both high school and middle school students.  Prizes awarded to individuals and winning schools.

Massachusetts Marine Educators (MME) and NOAA’s Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary also have an annual student marine art contest; click through for more information.
